Mt. Baker

Ski Day 1

We drove up to Baker to catch a half day and decided to see how things go with a baby along. Our plan was to hang out in the ski lodge and take turns skiing/snowboarding. It was a warm day but very stormy so we didn't take Sai outside except to bring him into the lodge from the car.
I skied 2nd.

This is a picture that I took with my cell phone, visibility was poor...

I was a little nervous to get back on the slopes. After having a baby my body feels about 15 years older, less flexible and MUCH less toned. I was happy to find that my ski muscles did not disintegrate after all, and it was like I never left. It was so fun, I mean like really awesome fun. I did a little skiing last season when I was pregnant (considered safe as per my Dr.) but held back and was anxious about it, even though skiing was actually easier than walking at the time, all you do is lean. This year I revisited my true love and had a blast.

Ski Day 2

The next day was clear, blue sky and beautiful AND we had 6 inches of fresh snow.

Mt. Shuksan

I'd say it was a winter wonderland

An emergency helicopter landed in the parking lot, it was quite a scene. Apparently someone got hurt in some gulch and had to be airlifted from the mountain. They unloaded him into a flatbed truck here, kind of a weird place to put an injured man but they must have had some plan. This reminds me, I need to get a helmet.

In the lodge
I found that upstairs in the lower lodge is the best place to hang out with a baby. There are lots of small tables and you can find a quiet corner to yourself to spread out all the baby gear. It's also carpeted and clean so Sai could spend some time wiggling around on the floor.

As we left, the sun was setting and had cast a pretty darn nice pink glow on the mountain.
Skiing is one of my favorite things in the world to do, I plan to ski well into the years when I can buy a super senior ticket (70+), I can't wait until my kid(s) can enjoy this with me.

This looks like such an incredible experience, I can't even tell you how exceedingly jealous I am! ;) Maybe someday...when the coffers are at least a little more full.
